1. What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?
Catch a 23 weeker. Sadness. Less of that. Bunch of midwifery stuff. Ooh, saved a foetus, don't normally do that.
2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I ate lunch nearly every day. I think that was a resolution. Next year I'm going to sleep at least 6 nights out of every 7 and for more than 5 consecutive hours each night I do sleep. That would be a significant improvement on the way things are. (Currently 2-3 all-nighters in 7, usually only 4 hours sleep in bed, another 2 grabbed on the bus.) Oh, and no nookies with people who don't cherish me. I deserve a helluva lot better than I've been accepting lately.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I catch babies, what the hell do you think? Ohhhh... you mean emotionally close to me? (I'll edit this question next year so I don't give a similar response, I swear.) One, J. Who honoured me so much by having me there.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
I'm going to say no.
5. What countries did you visit?
Cork's a country, right? Does Norn Iron count? Probably not. So, again, none.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
Leaving the countryness.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Uhh... I'm trying to obliterate 2008 from my memory, thanks very much.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I can honestly say that I can look back on 2008 and say "nothing." It has been a truly woeful year. I suppose not punching various people was an achievement in self-control, and perhaps calling things off with someone who made me alternately very happy and very depressed might count. But nothing in particular.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Nothing that was really within my power to succeed at. I don't consider my schol results a failure, even if I didn't get the magic 70% the work I put in then will stand me in good stead. For next year, if nothing else. Eep. Yes, putting myself through that again. Glutton for punishment, am I.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Hee hee hee. It's easier to list the things that didn't have problems this year. It was not a healthy year, and I injured myself a bit too often. In stupid ways. Broke foot during Christian's house move, twisted ankle pretty badly by slipping in puddle and then slug. Trapped nerve in thigh flared up for the whole summer. Gurl bits needed poking, repeatedly. Haematoma of right pubococcygeus. Heart got broken, again. Head got bashed a few times off corners. Far too many nosebleeds.
Illness, got a nasty cold after Schol that had me shivering in bed while wearing many many layers. One day of vomity poopiness that was truly explosive. Bladder and kidney infections. Other than that nothing. At least it was all fairly minor.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Um, Melchior? My not so little laptop. Joined the 20th century only 7 years after everyone else left it. Also the worst thing I bought. Intarbets in bed means even less sleep.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
In alphabetical order:
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My own, again. Worse. Than. Hitler. But gods, did I enjoy doing it! (And get punished for it.)
14. Where did most of your money go?
Commuting, an answer that's not likely to change any time soon.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Vroomycycle! Want! It's a phase, I swear!
16. What will always remind you of 2008?
This question always has the word "song" in it, but I don't do music, so I'm finally adapting it. Demands for kittens and rainbows, probably. Didn't work, but here's hoping 2009 has plenty of them.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
happier or sadder? About the same.
thinner or fatter? Getting chunkier with each passing placement.
richer or poorer? Uh, poorer? Maybe. Kinda. It gets harder to answer that each year.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercise. Study.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Commute of Doom.
20. How will you spend Christmas?
Same as ever, with family. Up most of the night prepping for dinner, trying to keep the dog from eating Christmas (we've already had one casualty, one of the Santa baubles from the tree has been eaten.)
21. How will you be spending New Year's Eve?
Same as last year, alone. Nothing planned *shrug*
22. Did you fall in love in 2008?
I don't do in love. It's probably best to keep it that way. Bitter, twisted single. That's me! Did tell a friend that I love them, but not in the romantic sense.
23. How many one-night stands?
None, some, many, lots. One of those. As usual, depends on your definition. By mine, none.
24. What was your favourite TV program?
Turchwad! n Doctor Who n Bonekickers for silliness n Top Gear for giggles. Started watching House. Am liking.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I still don't do hate, though there have been re-evaluations of what I previously considered fine friendships.
26. What was the best book you read?
Book? What is this book thing you speak of?
27. What was your greatest
Kitteh therapy. Until this year I'd considered myself a doggie person. That was before I met Spectre.
28. What did you want and get?
Cake. Relaxation in Cark by the sea.
29. What did you want and not get?
Schol. The ability to bake something that I really, really wanted to bake. Even though I didn't think I wanted to bake it at first.
30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Black Sheep. I giggled quite a bit. Oh, and Zombie Strippers was another giggle. And finally saw In Bruges. And Stagecoach. I... don't think my tastes have changed too much over the years.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Nuffink much, went to college, got cake, after seemingly interminable journeying I came home, got more cake, cried in bedroom. I've also given up on birthdays. Turned 31. Time for that nonsense to end.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Well, Schol. That's an awful lot of could have been sleeping instead of studying time I'll never get back. Also more free time to spend with friends. Barely saw anyone this year, in some cases 6 months had passed between saying hello in person, and some of them live fairly close to me.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Tatters. Got sent clothes shopping more than once because of not having a stitch to wear. Pink coat is no more, still seeking a replacement.
34. What kept you sane?
Cake. Cark. Kittehs. Hugs. Moar Cake.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
All these questions are getting increasingly irrelevant to my life. Hmm.. .could it be that I is becoming a growed up? Ewwww!
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Lisbon... Oh bloody hell. Bloody. Hell.
I'm just going to lump Harney in as a political issue all in her own right. Cos going into it makes me cranky.
37. Who did you miss?
38. Who was the best new person you met?
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008:
The world is very very small. Dublin is even teenchier.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Emma's, my three year old niece, favourite song this year was "Always look on the bright side of life." There's a lesson there. If only I'd listen.
