It's been a long and full day and it's nowhere near over yet (dishes, always dishes.) Deposited the grandmother at the airport for her flight to Gatwick, hung around until strange man collected her with a wheelchair. Strange man tried to take a different woman away instead of my grandmother, but I was having none of it. You called out her name, you're taking her! Stop taking five minutes to look at other woman's boarding card when you're looking for my grandmother. She knows her own name, using a wheelchair does not make her incapable of speaking. Listen to her! She had to wait over an hour for a 'chair when she arrived in Gatwick, with no updates on when one might be coming, which is poor form.
Onwards into town, after half hoping that I'd bump into Si to wish him a happy Christmas in person. All my present shopping had to be done today because I Have Been Busy or far away and relaxing. Town was far less painful than I imagined it would be. Had to pop into the Little Shop of Horrors to buy something Martha wanted and was stunned at being able to walk around it with ease. In my three Christmasses there I could not get from one end of the very small shop to the other in less than 5 minutes in the last few shopping days before the Big Day. Also, there was no queue at the till. This, if nothing else, made me realise just how slow retail is being.
The other hint might have been the ridiculous reductions in some of the shops. A bunch of stocking fillers for the kids that were between 6 and 10 euro each at full price were picked up for 1 and 2. Red stickers on stock before Christmas? Yikes. But this made for a very happy Sarah, or at least a happy Sarah's wallet. Good thing too, as I'd just spent a few bob on a present to myself which kept me smiling as I ran around. Shopping all done I picked up another couple of presents for myself and some new pyjama bottoms for the Edi trip as I'm staying with one of the std/mws over there and it might be nice to be decent. Yeah, fine, I can pretend for two nights!
Home via Tesco and Tesco surprise reductions yielded some tasty samosas and stuff for my dinner which were demolished by the family despite protestations that they don't like Indian food. The paste board that we use as a temporary table for holding all the Christmas food/hiding the Christmas drink underneath has been erected in the kitchen and I have a Santa hat with bells on. And tomorrow's Christmas Eve. One more sleep till Christmas!
