Aug. 12th, 2007 06:18 pmI love movies. I really really do. Movies are a huge part of my life, they always have and always will be (inshallah.) Thanks to dad I grew up on a steady diet of Hammer horror and Hitchcock, with a few really cheesy things like St. Trinian's thrown in for good measure. These things have undoubtedly helped make me the person I am now. So, thanks dad! My movie collection is more than 70% pre-1980 stuff. Stuff that's great. That tells a story with pictures. Where how something's told with pictures is at least as important as what's said.
Last night I decided to watch The Holiday. It's been a while since Jude Law was everywhere and I figured I could tolerate looking at him again. The blurb did not in any way make it sound like something I'd want to watch, but I'll quite happily stick a movie on while reading or sewing and there was nothing else on. It seemed... not my type of thing. Boy was I stunned to find myself enjoying it. Sure, it's totally predictable and incredibly corny, but sometimes that's just not an issue. It's not the destination, it's how you get there.
Besides, right now I'm looking for a bit of corny in my life.
