Cos it's been a while since I did this.
Searched high and low for someone willing to let me poke them with a sharp metal stick as practice before being set loose on an unsuspecting woman to take a full blood count sample. This woman is the best preceptor I've had, my skills have come on enormously. I'm being trusted to do things and learning new things. And she hasn't once double checked a result that I was confident giving. Previously, it's been known to happen that I've had every blood pressure and urinalysis result double checked in case I was Doing It Wrong. She won't make beds with me though, I'm too neat. I have to get this woman to meet my mother! (My room is still a mess.)

Found someone to let me poke them with a sharp metal stick. We were on the verge of bleeping one of the SHOs to come over and let me attack them with a needle when one of the other students volunteered. Woo! And also aww for not getting to scare an SHO. This marks step one of my "no bloody way am I waiting an hour for a doctor to put in IV access when I can do it" promise to myself. (Lots of midwives are not confident about siting cannulae and wait for docs. If I've got a woman who needs her IV cannula resited and I'm skilled in it, I'm bloody well doing it. Not yet, obviously.)

Collected a woman from theatre and did all the work about her admission to postnatal. Which is a lot, especially when the necessarily brief handover from theatre was only about 1/6th of the information necessary for me to give good care. Hooray for me being meticulous about checking charts.

Mixed a lot of IV antibiotics. A lot. Can't administer them yet, which is a bit silly. Not allowed until I'm registered. Again, a bit silly. Not like I'd be doing them without supervision.

Completely discharged women and babies from hospital, including poking the 'puter system of stupidness and arranging appointments for heel prick tests n stuff (urk, Bank Holidays.) Keep typoing my work username though, cos it's so similar to my college one, only with an extra n. Yes, I forget how to spell my own name sometimes.

Flirted wildly to get what I wanted. Twice. Sometimes boobies, they are made of win. I'm putting that on my ticky boxes of competency documents as "communicating effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team." Why yes, I have no shame.

Good day. Learned new stuff, worked on existing skillz. I has knowledge, and I'm using it. And boobies, too.

Tomorrow I'm going to go to Mass, because the chapel is just too beautiful not to go at least once. The extra half hour off has nothing to do with it, honest.
