Today myself and Christian wandered north of the border for a shufty at stuffs. I was under orders to come back with some cheap booze for the 'rents which I nearly accomplished, just not in the quantities they'd like because booze is bloody heavy and damnit I wanted gin for myself. One of the more terrifying things I've seen this year is shops advertising that they're taking euro for pound. This is not news, but the reaction I had was one of genuine terror. Euro. Pound. Same same. Didn't take advantage of the shops that were offering this, as the only shop where I spent Euro monies was Sainsbury's (€1 = £0.917 today.) Where I saw another terrifying thing, bottles of Jameson being bought as though they were cans of Coke. Saw a number of trollies with 4-6 cases of Jameson going through the tills.

Didn't buy that much in the end, some drugs (35p for 16 tabs of 200mg ibuprofen is nice, and 16p for 16 tabs of 500mg paracetamol likewise), some booze and a pack of dates. It wasn't as insanely busy as I'd been told it was, but then it is Monday and we left Drogheda in the early afternoon.

Can't stop thinking about euro for pound. Scares the bejaysus out of me. We passed parity between punt and sterling a while ago, now the numbers are similar to what I'd always known the punt to be against the pound, just the currency symbols are the wrong way around. Euro, pound, same same. Still boggling.
