Apr. 11th, 2009 11:41 amThis was going to be a post about independent midwifery, again. But it's a day of relaxing and of basking in the sun, so the short version follows:
By independent I mean independent of hospitals. I don't want to work on my own, but in a small group. 4 would be a good number - one week of on-call per month but with my own women apart from that. This would work well, I think. I've checked the numbers, it's very doable that way (plus as a small practice the HSE couldn't go "eh, no, you weren't at the birth, we're docking a grand of your pay.") There are hassles, such as poking hospitals to get access to ultrasounds and blood work, but they're minor things in the grand scheme. Four years away from that though, thanks to the silly "3 years post-registration" clause that appeared like the shopkeeper in Mr. Benn in the last draft of the insurance docs.
But now I have yeast that's frothing and wants me to turn it into something tasty and washing to go on the line and just look at that beautiful day! Halfway through my extra long weekend, relaxing is good.
