Yesterday I turned 32 again. Or rather, it was the 32nd anniversary of the day my parents got me. It's always been a lovely day, usually better than any celebrations of the actual date of my birth and it means a bit more to me anyway cos everyone gets a birthday but you have to be really special to get an Adoption Birthday as well.

So on Thursday there was a nice meal with parents and Martha and hugs and stories before I ran away back to Dublin so I could get to Cork early on Friday. Had booked myself on the 10:00 train because it was cheap and I hadn't taken the train down to Cork since my last camping expedition with the Guides in 96. It was a much more comfortable experience than that last trip was and I could have bought beer if I'd wanted to and no-one, no Guide leader or anyone, could say that I couldn't have a beer. Am still bitter at being refused service at the ancient age of nearly 19 that time. But oh how boring a journey! The bus takes a lovely route that makes me happy to live in this beautiful country. The train, ugh! The train passes through... well... I don't know where it passes because the blasted embankments and hedges make it impossible to see anything of the surrounding countryside.

Arrived in Cork early enough and deposited bag in left luggage at the bus station, because the train station doesn't believe in such services. And so I wandered round Cork for a few hours, looking at nice things I might like to buy or eat and bought some Cake and generally enjoyed myself before heading out to Kinsale for dinner. Kinsale is pretty! Even after dark! It's prettier in the daylight as I discovered today. But yesterday I was utterly gleeful at just how many restaurants have a nautical theme and tasty fishies to eat. I prefer fish to meat, on the whole, fish is what I was reared eating because good fish almost straight off the boats was a lot cheaper than good meat. So I had tasty cod and chips (my cod intake is nowhere near what it was, and I have guilt at overfishing so only eat it very very rarely) and lots of chatting with Christian. And I had such a lovely day.

Of course, being me, today my mood went down the toilet but that's ok, I can deal with that after having a lovely day yesterday. Appy birfday to me!
