squeefulfishI'm 7 minutes 37 seconds into this as I start this post. I've already gone "yowzers" a couple of times, and I know this crap of obstetrics happens. But the thing that's making me scream at the screen? "You can go to Great Britain..." and there's a picture of this island and the one next door. Harrumph.
So far I'm recommending it as a quick way to see where I'm coming from. Hooray for me living in a country that doesn't criminalise my profession randomly! That actually listens to WHO and FIGO recommendations. That has one of the lowest maternal mortality rates in the world. There are some things that need to be changed, though, and soon. I can't change that Dublin is the home of managed labour, though. I can tell you that I'll never work in that place. Not even to try and change policy from within. I ain't going up against the legacy of O'Driscoll, not on his turf.
Oh, stay the hell off the bed. Stay the hell off your back. On all fours, kneeling, squatting, sitting, anything except on your back! Trust your body. Hell, stay the hell away from hospital. Birth only became "dangerous" when it moved into the hospitals. And speak to a midwife! I'd recommend me. I come with references. And science.
And this is where I belong. This, this is my passion, my calling. Still not a vocation.
