squeefulfishOh am I glad I was relaxed over the THREE WEEKS OFF WOO! and didn't worry about the boobies exam. Further questioning of lecturer today revealed it's all easy peasy stuff, bit of attachment issues, maybe some mastitis, maybe some cup/supplemental/formula feeding, as ever relating it to attachment and positioning and anatomy and physiology yadda yadda. I'll be graaaaand. Hey, when you've had mastitis as a newborn [1], everything boob related is easy! This is why I've been somewhat concerned about the serious pain, pus and general gunk that was associated with a point not too far away from my nipple over the last few days.
Couldn't sleep because of the pain, and the redness and swelling was enough to convince me that poking it with a sharp stick was the best course of action. So I did. And lo, the swelling reduced almost immediately! This may be because there was a good few ml of pus spurted across the room on lancing it. Bit of a squeeze, bit of blood came out, that's me happy. Once I see blood it's grand, means most of the infected goop is out. Mix up some honey and sterile water, inject it into the hole, see if anything else comes out. (yes! The HOLE! IN MY BOOB! Beside my precious nipple that I'd like to be functional someday!) It's like combining all my hobbies in one, there. Looking after it after that was easy, quick wash with saline, bit of a poke to see if anything comes out, watch the redness go from 4 inches diameter to just over one.
Busy few months ahead, exams in Jan, Feb, March, April and June. Plus assignments and placements and coming up with a bloody idea for this bloody dissertation.
I may have had too much Red Bull today.
[1] No, really. Yay transfer of maternal hormones! Making me fucking lactate (kinda - "milky secretion" is the term used in most textbooks) when I was days old. Which turned to mastitis, which turned into an abscess, which was lanced, which left a two fucking inch scar on my boob.
