I'm working on it, I really am. I'm finally learning to listen to my own body when it screams at me. Only took not being able to walk or talk with pain and occasionally feel faint for me to finally go "no, I don't care how many hours I owe this placement, I'm taking the afternoon off to get sorted." And now I am. I'd jokingly mentioned the possible UTI to my placement co-ordinator yesterday when she found me on a different floor to the one I'm working on, making a bed in a ward I've not been on since first year (transfer, might as well help make the bed while I'm handing over.) Quick call today with me going "I'm worse, I'm leaving at 1 to get to a doc by 2" et voila, paid sick leave! Well, paid in that I don't have to make up the afternoon hours I missed. I now have drugs and I am happy. And I don't have to pay back the hours. Or, er, even mention on my timesheet that I wasn't there :D Placement co-ordinator gets cookies on Monday. She thinks I was joking about that.

College doc just took my word for it, which was lovely. "I've two plusses of both blood and protein, nitrates, significant suprapubic pain, no dysuria, recent STI screen all negative; I've a UTI, can I've some antibiotics please?" Blood pressure is back in the scary zone again and the headaches and visual disturbances are back, so once I'm finished in OPD I'll be getting that looked at too. Adalat for one!

In non-wee-related news, today's med students were kinda cool. We sat in on a clinic together and during the breaks between clients discussed the future of midwifery and homebirth in Ireland and then I did my usual bouncing on an invisible yoga ball while talking about natural methods of pain relief and fondling of boobs thing. My own boobs, not hers, I'm a big boob fondler when it comes to talking about breastfeeding. And we agreed entirely that Active Management of Labour is the biggest load of round objects ever. And we giggled over a few things and really, I do so love meeting new people. People are fantastic.
