Sep. 2nd, 2009 08:59 pmThis morning, after two hours sleep on my part, myself and Martha trundled off to Dundalk to get her registered as a first year psychiatric nursing student.
First surprise, it's more expensive to get to from Drawwda than it is to get to Dublin.
Second surprise, tons of parents and partners and grannies! Tons of them! I remember zero turning up on first day anywhere I've been.
Third surprise, gyaaah lack of communication! All the nursing and midwifery students (and I made a new midwifery friend today! Must throw some spare books at her.) registered at the same time, so about 100 students altogether. Took 3 hours, including the half hour "Welcome to DkIT" talk. Students wander off to register online (apparently), rest of us wander about, me looking for coffee and a sit down but ending up giving a phone consult outside and then another long call about neonatology (yeah, I dunno either). Martha reappears after about an hour. Student card yet? Show me! Nope, no student card. Well, go get one. Where, no-one told us. So more milling about and eventually finding an unsignposted room with people who look like they give out student cards in it, more milling about for me (can one person mill about?) Martha and my new little friend come back grasping student cards. When I registered in first year, where there were hundreds registering that day, the whole process was 30 mins, tops. So much for the benefits of being a smaller college :)
More milling about as we wait for a tour of the campus, while we're waiting someone comes up to us with "were you told what time to come in on Monday? No? Oh. Em, half nine." Nice enough campus, but I'll stick with my old gas building that is absolutely gorgeous and has some amazing acoustics in the rotunda, ta. You know the spot in the bunker on Wood Quay in the amphitheatre? Where if you're riiiiight in the middle and face the buildings you get a fabulous echoey effect? Same thing, but much smaller and indoors, so small I'm the only one who plays with it.
Then wandered round shops and eventually got home round 4. Shattered Sarah is shattered and conked out both before and after dinner. Though the two hours sleep might have had something to do with that. Must remember to sleep tonight, have exciting social type things to do tomorrow. Cor.
