That's me! For years I've had pink cheeks, a worrying tendency towards blushing and alcohol - particularly red wine, even a single glass - just makes my face redder. Always figured it was rosacea, but until pretty much now the only treatment was laser surgery to blast the enlarged superficial blood vessels. And I can do without that, thanks. Especially as it feels like having elastic bands snapped against your face, repeatedly, and needs to be done regularly. Last place I tried refused to even quote me, there's that much of it.
It's been spreading for the last few years. What was once just a problem on my cheeks has started to cover almost my entire face, spreading onto my neck and breasts. I'd like to say "it's part of who I am, I'm keeping it" but to be honest, sometimes I'd like to be able to wear make-up and have a vaguely even skin tone. Girlie girl reason, yeah. I'd be lying if I said it didn't affect my confidence in the past; it took me a while to get over it.
Last week's Irish Times health section gave me cause to cheer though. It's not my fault! It's because of skin mites. Lovely. And before you get all squicked out on me, you've probably got them too. Just I've got more of them than you, cos I'm special. So I'll be doing a lot of poking of docs and in the meantime I'll be giving the dilute tea tree oil a shot. Can't hurt, have tried pretty much every OTC "remedy" there is. Not entirely sure if my face is the sort of thing I want to have a subject and control side on, mind.
