Dec. 14th, 2009 04:46 pmOk, What I thought:
Paper 1, normal pregnancy
Question 1 (compulsory) choice of A or B, both 100 marks. Autonomy and scope of practice.
Questions 2-4 (pick 2 will be divided 30/70 or 60/40)
Iron supplementation in pregnancy and changes to the haematological system in pregnancy.
Gynaecoid pelvis and mechanism of labour (with emphasis on how knowledge of this helps midwives recognise the normal and hence the abnormal)
Physiological changes in the puerperium.
Breastfeeding. Something about that. Ok, that's 4 things that are likely to come up.
Easy, know all this stuff. Apart from autonomy, which is a load of wanky nonsense.
What happened:
Question 1 Scope of practice and documentation.
3: Changes to the cardiovascular system in pregnancy and how knowledge of this assists the midwife when providing antenatal care to a woman on her first pregnancy.
4: a) Outline the current evidence regarding eating and drinking in labour b) care and management in 2nd stage of labour with reference to mechanism of labour.
5: Care and management of first time mother and her baby for the first 48 hours after a normal vaginal birth.
I so got that wrong. But I enjoyed writing every bit. Would have enjoyed it more if I'd not ended up with a claw instead of a right hand, but hey, can't have everything.
Have had lots of coffee, home now to chips. I do eat things that aren't chips, just they're my reward for being brilliant and my comfort food for when I'm not. Reward chips tonight!
