Today's my mother's 60th birthday and she decreed that she wanted her daughters, sister and sister-in-law to go for a spa day. My idea of a personal hell, sitting in a bathrobe all day while someone tried to put things on me or worse, touch my feet. In the end I settled for a simple back massage, thinking that it might help with all the stresses I've been under lately and will continue to be under until the 2nd of September at 12.30 when my repeat exam ends and I flollop on college park with midwives.

I did swim and sauna and steam myself and make full use of everything water based, truly being Sarah Fish today. Swimming is something I've always loved but haven't done much of lately, mostly because of time and still bearing a grudge against the local pool that chopped the top of Niamh's finger off when they were meant to be looking after her. It's something I really must do more of though, cos it's been so long since I swam properly that my forearms ache from the few lengths I did. Pathetic. Swimming along the bottom and popping up to scare Martha is something I never tire of, though my natural buoyancy has increased over the years making it more difficult to stay under. Definitely worked out more stress with the swims than I did with the pokey pokey massage which is good as swimming's cheaper to keep doing.

That's two posts in a week where I go on about how much I love swimming and being in the water. Really, must do more of that. Who's on for swimming sometime?

Mum enjoyed herself, giggling over myself and Eva divvying up the sandwiches before the last of us got back from their treatment. And really, it's very difficult to keep a straight face when someone asks you if you'd like your treatment now.

And now, more birthday meal celebrations and even more cake.
