On possibly Thursday night I discovered just how dangerous books are. Got it into my head around midnight that some studying of the renal system was a good idea. Sure, why not? Far too much of the "oooh, what's that? Want to know more about that!" went on, dragging out mum's old anatomy books and then finally my cheap ass copy of Gray's with the incredibly hard to make out diagrams. Man, he had some fascination with male reproductive anatomy. The section on girl bits is about a third of the size of the one on boy bits. Mind you, there isn't a chapter entirely devoted to dissection of girl bits while there are pages and pages of pictures of dissected boy bits. That's a strange chapter to look at. An awful lot of fascinated reading and checking went on and then it was 5 a.m. and it hurt an awful lot.

Books keep pointing out interesting looking things like the rectouterine pouch of Douglas (Just watch that peritoneum fold!) and Cowpers (or Cowper's) glands and even the uterus masculinus as though they're really important but don't specify why. More book lernin' ahead! Or possibly internet lernin'. Depends how lazy I get. And now I'm wondering who Douglas and Cowper(s?) were. Bodies are great, it's like a little planet for you to discover yourself that you already own! No flag necessary! Absolutely awesome, in the only acceptable meaning of that word. I am filled with awe by bodies.

The more I know about anatomy the more fascinating the whole thing is. Bodies are great and strange and wonderful and beautiful and absolutely incredible at times. Hey, guys, did you know your testes start off life living just under your kidneys? That's how great bodies are! Absolutely fascinating. Off to do some more study now before the next practical. And then find me some brains. Brains?
