Adventures in yeast
Feb. 18th, 2008 11:59 pmWell it's been a while since I got the chance to do any meadmaking/general homebrewing goodness so obviously smack bang in the middle of possibly the busiest few weeks of my entire life [1] is the perfect time to start again. Or rather, it's the last day without Mum being around to complain that I'm stinking up the house. Mead's not too stinky, but some of my more... experimental... batches of wine can be a bit on the pongy side in the initial stages.
So, what's Sarah got keeping her company in her bedroom these days? [2] One gallon of sticky mead, recipe number 4. The same recipe as what I was drinking last year. One each of peach, apricot (need to poke this one to do something about acid levels, was far too acidic last time) and tea (Earl Grey, not hot.) And a bucket that currently contains four pounds of jam, hot water and pectolase. Let's see how that one turns out this time.
Baking hasn't been happening lately, is unlikely to be happening again anytime soon. Except for brownies/cookies that require no thought/effort.
Anyone for coffee sometime? How's your July?
[1] Probably a lie, but I'm so super busy that I've figured out that four hours sleep is more than enough. With adequate caffeine intake. And water. Who'da thunk that plain ol' water would be almost as good at keeping me awake as magic bean juice? Busier now than when I was on placement. Erk. But all my own fault.
[2] Other people have love lives in their bedrooms, I have the blurp blurp blurp of airlocks to keep me company in mine.
