Only made one day of the midwifery nerdery this week, the last day is tomorrow but there's not a lot that's of interest to me. Today was fun though, started the morning with a presentation on lesbian women's experiences of maternity care in uh, Sweden, I think. Then another on African refugee women's experiences in Melbourne, and then something about midwives experiences of the third stage of labour (from birth of baby to delivery of placenta and membranes including control of bleeding) but I left with the shocking information that Sweden has a 5% manual removal of placenta rate. MROP is something I've only heard of twice in my clinical placements. Twice. And I'm based in a hospital with 8,000+ births per year. 5% is scary. Let the sodding thing come away of its own accord, cos, well, it probably will! MROP involves transfer to theatre, where basically an obstetrician shoves their hand inside the uterus to remove the placenta.

The afternoon was wonderful. Nadine Edwards did two performance thingies, one of which I'd seen before but which still brought tears to my eyes. My classmates also did the play that they did for their Presentation of Doom last year, to rapturous applause. Go them! Again, teary Sarah. Was based on online discussion groups about pregnancy. They've been threatened with being dragged around other places to perform and asked if they've plans to study audiences reactions to it. Course co-ordinator jokingly yelled at that point "let them qualify first, they'd drive me mad!"

Lovely day and also good to show my face.

Arrived home to mails reminding me of debating workshops. Reminding me? This is the first I've heard of them, and I pay attention. I'd especially have noticed that they're on until 9 and that one of them is on my sodding birthday! Harrumph.
